Anything new on the updates for those of us on Qwest? I still can't make MSN
my default in Windows 7. Had it in Vista with workarounds, but I can't get
MSN to stick as a program, so I can't use it as the MAILTO program either.
I'm hoping 10 will correct that for me. Thanks for any news you have in that
regard.

P.S. I'm running Windows 7 Pro and Windows 7 Home Premium on another
machine. Both were installed clean over Win XP.

We released MSN 10 for the US market last November, today we just released
MSN 10 to the majority of our international markets and we are now working on
our partner releases.

I do hope that MSN10 is released for Qwest soon. I understand that it is
supposed to fix the no navigation bar bug on any opened links. This is very
irritating. I had the navigation bar until I installed sp3 and IE8 a month
ago for my xp, but now I don't when opening links.

I used MSN10 for a couple of months while still on dial-up and the
navigation bar bug was on MSN10 on certain links but better than every link
like I have now with MSN9.6. With MSN10 I still got the no navigation bar bug
when reading story's on MSNBC and at the end of the story click on the
discuss story on newsvine link.

At least I have figured out how to bring it back now by right clicking where
the navigation bar should be and unchecking show navigation bar. Then right
clicking and re-check show navigation bar. What a pain in the you know where.

You can tell from the release schedule below that MSN Premium/MSN Explorer is not a product that Microsoft takes seriously. They just keep it around for the sake of those paying customers who refuse or are unable to upgrade to another browser or email program. I don't blame you if you don't want to learn another program with a completely different user interface, but you'll pay for the privilege. I am guessing at least six months after initial deployment before Qwest customers begin to "enjoy" the benefits of the new release. Until then, it's a crap shoot whether the current offering will even install on a Windows 7 system.

You could take a hint from the Qwest member site, http://member.q.com: Windows Live Apps, Qwest Installer that does not even install MSN Explorer, Norton in place of McAfee and a web page to manage email accounts. Now of course they are not going to completely drop support for MSN Explorer, not without letting it have a long drawn out death, but don't expect them to put their best and brightest support people in charge of it either. No one likes to be put into a dead end job, and people who are good can read the writing on the wall.

If you don't believe me don't ask in this group. Ask in one of the Office groups, for example, what people are really using for email and a browser. Ask how many people are using MSN Explorer email client, and see how many laugh at you. IE8 isn't even a player any more.

You are assuming some things about my rationale for sticking with MSN. I use
Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook and had used OE, Windows Mail and Thunderbird. Windows
Live mail in Win 7 is a better option, but I have yet to find an email client
that offers the flexibility of MSN Premium for multiple machines and users in
different physical locations. It has been reliable for storage, backing up,
and folder structure and has no downside other than the lack of upgrade
support you describe. It handles compose layout, attachments and photos
just fine. I also do not find combining social networking and other web apps
with email desirable, so the one app does it all clutter doesn't appeal nor
do I like to store everything I have in the cloud. I happily adjust to new
systems, but only if they meet my needs. Thanks for the advice, though.
Qwest has been pushing in that direction for a long time. To date, it has
been apples and oranges, so I will hold out for and support MSN until it is
really dead in the water.

You use Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook and MSN E-Mail client, all at the present
time? I think that's what you are saying. "No downside", OK. ;o)
