Windows Live Messenger's(WLMsgr) mail icon/button will open Windows Live Mail(WLM) if
a. WLM is open and using the same Live ID used for WLMsgr
b. WLM is closed and prior to closure was signed on with the same Live ID used for WLMsgr
For Windows Live Messenger to open Hotmail instead of Windows Live Mail three options are available.
1. Uninstall Windows Live Mail
- XP (Add Remove Programs/Windows Live Essentials/Change/Deselect Windows Live Mail)
- Vista/Win7 (Programs and Features/Windows Live Essentials/<same as above>
or
2. Stop signing in to Windows Live when using Windows Live Mail
- Tools/Options/Connections/Stop Signing In
(Note: Your Live ID contacts for any Live ID will not be available if not signed on to Windows Live)
or
3. Sign in with a different Live ID in WLM than used for WLMsgr
(Note: Only contacts for the signed on Live ID in each application will be available for each application)
Unless you use a separate Windows logon username and password for each user anyone sharing the pc using the same Windows logon
username/pw will be capable of opening WLM and reading your mail(that includes option 2 or 3).
Thus if you don't want people to read or have access to each other's email with WLM installed each user should have a separate
Windows logon username/password and sign off when their session is complete...the only other option is (1)-no integrated mail
client for WLMsgr to open

Post by JasUsing Windows Live Messenger v2009 with hotmail, everytime I click on my
email msgr button, I am taken to Window Live Mail, not hotmail on the web.
How do I change this setting from the add-on WLM to hotmail web-based email
please. ie. www.hotmail.com (revamped to live).
This is a shared pc and people are reading my mails and need to get WLM
removed also.
