Contact MSN support. They may be able to help you. It would have been wise
to have an email backup plan in place.

I wouldn't be so sure. When I installed Windows Live Mail for the first
time, it downloaded all of the MSN emails that I had deleted for several
years. I didn't have access to them, but WLM found them somewhere. It took
hours and there were thousands of them. It is free to contact MSN support,
and it won't hurt to ask. I'll bet if law enforcement or a powerful
corporate lawyer had a subpoena they could get them.

We are assuming that this fellow is writing about an MSN email account. It
makes sense, because this is the MSN discussion group, but his post doesn't
say...

Cheers,

Earle

Earle, if your mail was on the servers, they would have downloaded. If you
deleted them from the servers in the Hotmail interface, there is *no* way that
they would have been downloaded to your PC. They *may* have existed in a local
folder for OE on the computer and were imported automatically in Windows Live
Mail, but they can't have come from the server if they had been deleted on the
server/from the server previously.

Heh, I have been using Windows computers for nineteen years now and I know
when an email is deleted from my local email store, and also when I want it
to stay deleted! I keep few messages on the Hotmail server, and do not
allow Deleted Items, Junk Mail or Sent Items to accumulate. WLM was
downloading messages for hours, and it said that it was getting them all
from Hotmail. I figured it was impossible too, until I read some things at
least five years old. By the way, this was on a new Vista computer that I
had just purchased. MSN was not installed, OE was not installed, and the
only mail store present was one that I had imported into Windows Mail from
an OE store copied to CD. The messages that WLM was downloading definitely
did not come from that location.

Hahaha. The pop3 access to my Qwest/DSL account was verified by several

get those emails with a subpoena, or Homeland Security could get them.
