MyMSN page lost again. How does this happen?

Hello,
Once again, MyMSN customized home page is gone. In its place are a bunch of
modules I don't want. My stock portfolio was replaced by one that has the
Dow Jones and S&P only - all of my other stocks are gone, and when I try to
add them back I get a message that says "Information is not available at this
time."

I was in the process of adding my weather locations back in when I noticed
that a gadget with dating and singles advice kept reappearing after I deleted
it. It reappears when I go to the "Add Content" page and return to the MyMSN
page, whether or not I add any other content. Does anyone know why this
happens?

All of my news gadgets were deleted and replaced by different ones.

Something called "Today page" was added when I tried to access live mail.
There was a bunch of nonsense on it I didn't need, so I went into the
settings and disabled it immediately. Now my inbox loads immediately as
before. This was a minor irritation compared to losing the MyMSN home page,
but it didn't help matters.

Could this have happened because of another Windows XP update? I ask this
because I noticed that at the same time I could no longer access the MyMSN
home page with FireFox 3.5.5. This problem happened once before after a
Powershell upgrade. I dumped Powershell which fixed the problem, but now
it's back and Powershell is nowhere to be found on my PC. Once again the
message is "Your request could not be processed at this time, please refresh
this page or try again later."

I'm doing all my repair work with IE 7 but would rather use FireFox. Does
anyone have any idea why I might have lost my MyMSN home page contents, and
why FireFox can no longer be used to access MyMSN?

I'm running Windows XP SP3. Thanks for your time,
Big Al Mintaka

I cannot help, I just want to add my voice to yours. I have used IE8 since
it came out and tonight my "My MSN" page was trashed. Just as happened to
you, all my stocks and links were gone. My weather was localized to New
York City which is quite a switch from the previous San Antonio, Texas
setting. I sent a request in to have my layout and settings restored. It
will be interesting to see what happens.

When they restore it I am going to take a screenshot. If they can't restore
it then it is another strike against relying on Microsoft's cloud.

Hi Bill,

it certainly sounds like we're running into the same problem. FWIW, I'm
running IE7. I had problems with IE8 unrelated to MSN and got rid of it some
time ago.

Today most of the MyMSN home page was intact, but the stock quotes were
gone. I re-added the stock quotes gadget and found that it already contained
some (but not all) of my quotes. Bizarre. That information was stored
somewhere even though the gadget was gone when I first logged on.

I've been maintaining the page for my father who's in his 80's and needs a
helping hand with this stuff. I've recommended that we switch his services
to iGoogle. I also have an iGoogle account I've had for a long time and it's
never given me problems like this. I can also access it with FireFox at all
times.

We're making the move to iGoogle as soon as possible.

Unfortunately I can't shed any light on this MyMSN problem either, so I have
nothing to add to what you and I have already said. I still don't know if
the problem with FireFox is related to this issue with trashed home pages

Have a good one,

Al,

Mine is back completely with all the stocks and correct layout. My page is
saved as William's page. That had disappeared. The page that was there was
the default page. Now William's page is back. Apparently something
happened on the server, or there was a linkage problem, or a problem with my
Windows LiveID sign in. I should have checked Sky Drive and Spaces to see
if they were there.

Good luck,
Bill
