Hi,

I recently changed my password on my hotmail account on 11/5 and the next day I go to log in and I used my old password only to realize that I had changed it. I tried to log in with my ?new? password only I couldn?t remember it. Needless to say I don?t have a back up account, it?s my primary email address (so when I try to reset the password it goes to my email which I cannot access). I?ve tried to answer my secret question, but I don?t know the answer because the question was from when I first opened the account back in ?97. Please tell me there is a way to retrieve it. It is imperative that I get into the account. If you need further information please email me and I?ll supply you with whatever you need. Thank you for your help in advanced.

I have a same type problem, difference was I was installing windows 7 and
went to access my msn email and change the password for the new windows 7 and
had a power fail and when I went to get back in to my msn account it said I
have tried too many time. which was I think four, I put what I remember from
1997

the worst part was that the new password would be sent to the email address
which I can not access, where does that logic come from.

You were accessing your msn email while changing the windows logon password in Windows 7 ?
- afiak, there is no relation between the two

If a Hotmail account
1. Hotmail Support
Hotmail Online Solutions Center
- requires creation of a username/pw that will also be linked to a Live ID
- Live ID username is **Not** visible to the public
Solutions for Common Problems

Hotmail Community Forums
http://windowslivehelp.com/community/Default.aspx

2. Windows Live ID Support
https://support.live.com/eform.aspx?productKey=wlid&ct=eformts
a. Scroll to and click on 'How can I reset my password' or click any item in the Faq list
b. Look in the lower right and click on the option 'Get More Help'
c. Wait till the page loads, then click on 'Get Support'
- the eform should now load

3. Reset Password
https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx?

If an Msn subscription account, since you can't access the support.msn.com subscribed help options without logging on contact Msn
via phone. Ensure you have and know the credit card being used for the subscription plan in question.
a. (800) 386-5550 Mon-Sun 24 hrs each day
b. (866) 271-7577 Hearing Impaired M-F 5am-10pm PST/Sat-Sun 5am-5pm PST

Once resolved, logon at account.live.com and enter an alternate email address and secret question(this option has been available
for quite a few years)...both can be used for reset emails and when asked to validate account ownership.

if you have forgotten your password and can't reset it through the usual means,
see this page for information on how to get help with it:
https://windowslivehelp.com/solutions/accounts/archive/2008/10/25/i-forgot-my-password.aspx

And, if you set an alternate email address at http://account.live.com that is
where the password reset will be sent.

which I can not access, where does that logic come from.
The "logic" comes from the simple fact that, unless you explicitly provided
them with an alternate email address (and they do ask you for one), they
don't have any email address of record to which to send the password. So how
will they respond to your password recovery request if they don't have any
email address than the one you signed up?

If you check any of the Hotmail support requests in this group, you should
find a response from "PA Bear" identifying the web links for Hotmail
support, including for password issues.
