After a lot of investigating and testing out I found the solution to this issue in windows 7 and this is the same solution to the 0x80070005(access denied, messenger not loging in and so on) problem that some may suffer
it has to do with the permissions to your own Users folder and it goes like this:
1. make sure that your in administrator account, if you dont know how: search the web for activating administrator account or you can use your own account if your admin.
2. go to your profile folder usually like this "c:\Users\(your profile)" and right click it going to "Properties".
3. go to "security" tab and click "advanced"
4. go to "owner tab and change it from "system" (or what ever it is) by clicking "edit" choose your account name and tick/mark with a V the: "replace owner on subcontainers and objects". press the "Ok button".
5. go to "auditing" tab and press the "edit" button, then press "add..." and enter your account name and "ok" button.
6. make sure you mark with a V the "Replace all inheritable auditing.........." and press ok.
7. and last go to "permissions" tab, choose your profile and "Change permissions" button.-> press "edit" on your account name and give it full access over all "folders, and all subfolders and files". press "ok". mark with a V the "replace all child object permissions......." ->press ok, ok and ok again and your done.
Hope this helped it certainly helped me the issue was really the "credentials manager" folder in my user folder that appearently i didnt have access to.

I think your best bet is to contact Messenger Support at http://support.live.co

The error can mean many things, but it is most often a problem with your accoun
in your local profile. Others reporting this issue indicate that they can sig
in with a different ID on the same PC and it works

i dont know if this would help but i had the same problem and i
couldnt fix it, the only version of msn i was able to load on my
computer was 7.0, then i installed microsoft office 2003 on my
computer and tried using microsoft outlook and i experineced some
trouble with that too, because outlook wouldnt retian the password,
apparently the problem that i found was that vista dont let you access
the protected storage system and i think is related to msn messanger
because on every single version i downloaded i notcice i couldnt check
the box for remember pasword and user name so i think the problem is
related, anyway, i removed that version of microsoft office 2003, and
downloaded a trial version of microsoft word 2007 then somehow i guess
(i am not a comp wizard) the trial version corrected the protected
storage system, then i load microsoft office 2003 again and it work
perfect then i try loading again msn live messanger and now it works
great too. so i dont know how they are related but it helped me, you
may want to try that and plz let me know if it works for you, is a
strange way to fix a problem but when you spend 3 days trying to get
this work is so frustrating that you are willing to try anything that
could help.

error code 80070005 and windows live messanger
This message is for those who are out there that need help with this sign on conflict with windows live messanger. It has something to do with administrator rights. So first I made sure that my defaults where set to the microsoft default. The next step is to uninstall all the previous window live messanger exe from your computer. Re download the latest version of the windows live messanger and save it to your my downloads folder. let it download and then open the folder right click on it, and select run as administrator. Make sure you have administrator rights to the computer. let it install and it should work for you. Msn messanger is a little touchy about not being the default program so make sure it is. start>default programs>select microsoft default and things should be looking up for you:)

Cannot believe it - thought I was the only one having problems. Same
concern - had Messenger (latest version), changed to Vista on my HP Laptop,
worked for a few months, then all of a sudden, couldn't log in - gave error
80070005, saying the service was down - IT WASN'T. Yes, did properly
removed Messenger and then reinstalled it - NOTHING, same problem. My
computer downstairs with XP runs the latest Messenger with no problem.
What's up with that?
Web Messenger works though, however cannot "update" the features because it
comes from Windows Live Messenger and ..... you know the rest. Where can
one find the solution to this "mess"? Sad that it worked before but now -
zip.

I believe that the error is caused by a permissions problem, based on my search
for information on the error. Some people reported success with a reinstall of
Messenger after removing all traces from the PC. It also seemed to be most often
seen when Messenger was in place on XP and then upgraded to Vista.
In any event, you should really take this to the newsgroup:
microsoft.public.windows.live.messenger
You can also contact Messenger support from here: http://support.live.com

My issue with the 80070005 error
I have the exact same issue on of coruse vista, I know what caused it and I fixed up the current problems associated with the error 80070005 with the MSN live messenger the latest one. It is an conflict with the Windows Vista Permision's and administer rights but my os has all that fixed up so that my account has full access to every folder on my pc but for some odd reason my g/f accidently clicked on something and the profiles got switched, every profile such as the admin didn't have full access it was read only. Odd thing was trueinstaller was set to full access on all folders/files as I said I fixed this up and I can't get the msn working. I installed an older version, installed the beta version, removed all traces on my pc including the obvious registy entry's with "Msn messenger" in its name. I have a feeling I missed some msn items in the regedit but this isn't working, with this information does anyone have further ideas? I know its a vista permission issue but whats the fix?
