Lost Ability To Reconnect To My MSN Account
(too old to reply)

I've had MSN for over 9 years... the past 5 through Verizon DSL.

A few days ago, after days of trying to forward some ports, I gave up and
did a hard reset on my modem. I lost my DSL, and when I got it back, I kept
getting errors when I went to the MSN mail client/browser that the account
was no longer valid. I had 5 minutes and it would close. Verizon said the
account was open... to wait 24 hours.

48 hours came and went and I called back. The tech had me uninstall MSN.
When I reconnected it showed a list of all the mail accounts on the PC. OK,
been here before. I picked the main user as I'm supposed to.

When I tried to reconnect to download my account... I got a similar error
that the account was suspended, disabled whatever... error # 206.

Now I can get to my mail at hotmail so there's nothing wrong with my MSN PW.
But all this uninstalling/reinstalling of MSN software isn't working and
Verizon doesn't seem to have a clue.

Does anyone have any clues how to fix this?

Thanks!

Forwarding ports where? Were you configuring your router or a firewall on the
PC?
If it was the modem/router, then a hard reset should not have had any effects on
your PC or settings on your PC.
I am not familiar with the 206 error. If it says that the account is disabled,
it may be a cookie problem, date/time issue, or the account actually has been
closed. Check the PC date and time first:
Right click the clock in the system tray. Select Adjust Date and Time.
Verify and correct the month, day, year, hour, minutes and time zone.
Reboot if you changed any of the above.
Then, clear temporary Internet files and cookies for Internet Explorer - Control
Panel/Internet Options.
Try installing MSN Explorer once again.
If that doesn't work, go to http://support.msn.com to see where it leads you on
sign-in.
And, I'd go back to Verizon Support as they are first line support for you if
the account is still active.

I was port forwarding for a game that stopped working online. THAT problem
turned out to be the Windows firewall turned itself on with out my knowledge
and I was running a firewall I was unaware of. Port forwarding is now fine.

One might think. I suspect the problem is when I reset my DSL account, it
set in motion problems on the MSN side.

All temp files and cookies have been purged several times with a program
called CCleaner. Clock is fine. MSN has been reinstalled now 3-4 times. I
don't think the problem is on my end.

Verizon said they were talking to "MSN External" which I suspect meand REAL
MSN support instead of the B team. The message was to wait another 24 hours.
Well that's coming up real soon. I'll try that link. Thanks!

The support/msn.com link just redirects me back to Verizon. I know there's a
direct support line to MSN. I'll think I'll call them... that is if they'll
talk to me. It's not as if I'm paying them $22 a month anymore for dialup. LOL

You may need to talk to Verizon and ask them to escalate the issue to MSN Support(since Verizon is responsible for support when
they provide the connection).

Here's the text from the 206 error popup:

MSN cannot complete sign-up because this subscription is expired, suspended,
or canceled. To reactivate this subscription, the primary account manager
must contact customer support.

Based on the wording of that message, it sure seems like an account problem.
And, if that is the case, only Verizon and MSN can work it out for you.
I'm still surprised that the problem, if it is an account problem, manifested
itself with a reset of the modem/router, but Verizon may be able to shed some
light on that. If that reset of DSL, as you've termed it, involved changing your
credentials with Verizon for the DSL account, then your MSN account would also
have been flushed, hence the message. However, I don't think that you mean that
you obtained a new Verizon login ID for DSL when you refer to resetting.
Do let us know what ultimately turns out to be the cause of this error.
