I'm a MSN premium subscriber, using MSN Explorer version 10.00.0070.1500 on
Windows XP. Something happened in the last week. I no longer can view
calendar items in the dashboard of MSN Explorer. This is not an issue of
using the old MSN calendar. I have been on the Live Calendar for many months,
and appointments/tasks showed up on the MSN explorer dashboard up until
sometime in the last 2 weeks.

I sent an email to MSN support and got an unintelligible reply and advice
that I should recommend this as a new feature on MSN feedback. I don't want a
new feature - I want the feature that was working for months to keep working.

What gives?

I think I know what happened. There was a problem with windows vista and
windows 7 where the dashboard calendar would not sync and always state "no
events for the next 7days". There were multiple requests to fix this problem
(MSN replied to me that they were aware of this issue and were working on
it). Well, they "fixed" it by getting rid of the dashborad calendar all
together....great way for MSN to solve this issue ...no???? Ridiculous.

Thanks for your reply.

MSN tech support confirmed that the option to add calendar to MSN explorer
dashboard is no longer there. They say it is because MSN calendar and Live
Calendar are on different servers. I don't understand that reasoning because
they converted me to Windows Live Calendar months ago, and I have been seeing
those appointments in my dashboard for months, until the last 2 weeks.

Tech support keeps advising me to go to the MSN feedback page to let MSN
product development know what I want.
Why do I have make a separate enhancement request for some MSN Premium
feature that apparently they decided to remove?

The calendar and tasks are not available on the Dashboard in MSN 10, only via
the icon on the toolbar, which loads the Windows Live Calendar in the main page.
I imagine that this is something many people would like and might be added to
the Dashboard options in the future.

Part of message I received from MSN Premium Technical Support:

"Please be advised that since Windows Live Calendar is no longer working on
the MSN Dashboard on MSN 9.6, the feature was removed on the recent MSN 10
update. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. I will forward
your feedback to our Product Team."

So:
-it stopped working because they removed it on the MSN update.
-once again, no warning about the changes/feature removals on an MSN
explorer update
-no committment to re-enable this lost feature
-it took 3 emails to MSN tech support and 3 replies to get the answer.

Greetings,

As requested in your other post, the executive in charge of MSN is Erik
Jorgensen.

The dashboard appointment viewer was removed in MSN 10 because it was tied
to the old MSN Calendar service and appointments created in Windows Live
Calendar do not display.
My assumption is that the appointments you were seeing in the dashboard were
created in the MSN Calendar prior to it being decommissioned. These
appointments would have been synchronized with a file on your local machine
and would still be visible in the dashboard.

We appreciate the feedback, and we will be investigating if there is a way
to offer similar functionality with the Windows Live Calendar.

Thank you,
