Corrupt DB files in MSN Premium

I'm having this problem on two computers, one with VISTA and a new one with Windows 7.

I am using MSN Premium from Qwest. Love the interface, love the software.

Except every time I want to view my email I have to go to C/USERS/OWNER/APP DATA/LOCAL/MICROSOFT/MSN and either rename or delete the DB file.

That is the only way I can get it to work or download new mails or allow me to send and receive.

MSN refuses to send me the software on a disk and I must download from their website.

Their technicians keep telling me the database or software is corrupt, or perhaps I have a virus or some other nonsense.

I also had this software on a 3rd computer that had XP, and it had similar problems.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

The new computer with Windows 7 is just out of the box a few days ago. I immediately downloaded anti-virus software, so I doubt I have a virus with a 2-day old computer. I think it's something in MSN Premium download.

I've used this software for over 10 years and love the features, but I hate getting this error. This wasn't a problem in the past.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

The master copy of your email on the MSN/Hotmail/Live Mail server is
possibly corrupt, or you are not syncing properly with it. When you quit
MSN Explorer, you have to let it finish syncing mail, at least the first
time. I can't even download MSN software on my Windows 7 desktop, because
of 235 errors.

You could try establishing a secondary mail account, to see if the problem
is duplicated there. Go to http://member.q.com, click E-mail Accounts and
create a new account there. Then quit MSN Explorer, and sign in using the
new user name and password. If you can see that user's e-mail, then you
have a problem with your main MSN e-mail account, not with the software. It
is extremely unlikely that downloading the software again would fix this
problem, but you never know.

They used to send you a CD for free, any time a member wanted it.

Hello Earle,

Thank you so much for your response.

I did what you said to do, I created a new account in Qwest/MSN Premium.

So far, it is working fine, where the other account is not. And that email
account is "broken" or corrupt on all my computers, each one using a
different OS, XP, Vista and Windows 7.

I have removed and added MSN Premium several times and that does not fix the
problem. The only way I can receive or send email is by going into
C/USERS/OWNER/APP DATA/LOCAL/MICROSOFT/MSN and either rename or delete the DB
file.

So apparently it is my actual "account" that is corrupt or malfunctioning.

Now what? I've called Qwest and talked to folks in India and Mexico and
they just keep telling me I have a corrupt DB file. But it's MSN's DB file.
Can they fix this on their end? Or do I have to "abandon" the account? I
really, really do not want to change me email address :(

How can I get this bumped up? What are the magic words I can say to get
someone at MSN/MS to help me fix this?

Thanks!!!

You can request that Qwest escalate the problem to MSN to check your account
information.
Have you tried using the CTRL-Shift-F11 account reset at the login screen to
remove all local information from the PC and then letting it sync fresh upon
sign in? Renaming the db file is also causing the download of your entire
mailbox, but it isn't rebuilding the base account information.

Marlow, other than what Stephen says, just keep calling Qwest support until
they escalate you to MSN. It sounds as if the people you have been talking
to are reading from a script. There may not be anyone at Qwest who
understands what has happened. Wow, I can't believe I got one right. I
haven't used this program for mail in forever.

If there is something wrong with the email database on the server, then you
should anticipate the possibility that messages will be lost during the
eventual repair process. You might want to make local copies of all
important messages and contacts before going any further. This sort of
thing has been reported here before, messages, contacts, Explorer Favorites
being lost. There is a lot of data on the servers and lots of things that
can go wrong. It is prudent to keep local copies of all information that
one values.

Good luck.
