Discussion:
McAfee, Webroot Spy Sweeper and Windows Defender...

I probably should have asked this when I asked about all the different
firewalls.

I am working with MSN on a photo sharing problem -- downloads are erratic at
best -- and they suggested that I install and run MSN Spy Sweeper. It looks
to me like it does the same thing, maybe even less, than the McAfee software
that MSN provides and, again, very similar to Windows Defender which
installs with Vista. Up until now I've run only the McAfee software.

Do I need to run all 3 of these? If not, which one(s) should I run?

Thanks in advance,

Howard

No, you don't. Spysweeper is a good program and will find and clean more that
Defender, and probably McAfee, too, but much of what it will find is going to be
benign. I don't know why they think that a download/upload issue could be caused
by spyware.

"...but much of what it will find is going to be benign" -- now that gives
me a warm and fuzzy feeling. :)

At any rate, I disabled spyware and system guards in McAfee and disabled the
Windows Defender service as well.

Thanks,

Howard

LOL! Yes, I should have clarified that most of these programs will report
cookies as "spyware" and make it look as if they removed thousands of threats,
when the reality is that most of these files are expired and pose no threat at
all.
