encarta.msn.com/dictionary yields
"The MSN Encarta page you are trying to visit has been discontinued. If you are looking for dictionary content, please visit MSN
Encarta Dictionary in US English, World English, or French."

To access MSN Encarta Dictionary
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/dictionary/dictionaryhome.aspx
Entering a word (e.g. Sound) and clicking on the resultant audio icon to pronounce the word does not work at this end either.

It is possible this is a temporary problem..

Optionally, you might try adjusting your sample rate for your sound card (e.g. change bit rate/Hz)

Other dictionaries appear to function...e.g Webster(below)...it will require one to install the Active X(if not already present)
for audio pronunciation.

The correct newsgroup for encarta is microsoft.public.encarta(note: it is a very low volume newsgroup).

Not sure that there would be any other group to try.
The actual address for the Encarta Dictionary is
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/dictionary/
I just tried a word and it looks like it is thinking about playing the
pronunciation, but it never plays. The Play icon > changes to a stop button, but
nothing actually plays. I assume that this is the same experience you have?

No problem on the URL, apparently I got it wrong, too. This morning, I checked
and posted from a Win7 machine and this evening I repeated the check on a Vista
machine and clicking the URL I posted returns a page not found.
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/dictionary/dictionaryhome.aspx
Seems to work.
However, the issue you report is also present on this machine. Click the play
icon and nothing at all happens.
I don't know where to follow-up on this, but perhaps Berit from the MSN team may
stop by here soon and will see the posts and forward it to the appropriate
people.

Thanks, Steve for the time & help on this issue, since i'm not a literate
expert, i've used this web page quite often in the past (win ME & IE6),
hoping the MSN team will stop by in the near future.

You can try the MSN.com Homepage selection.
I just tried the Help link from the Encarta Dictionary and it returned a
"403-not auth." error.
The feedback link works -
https://feedback.msn.com/default.aspx?productKey=encarta&locale=en-us&P1=http%3A//encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/dictionary/dictionaryhome.aspx&P2=Dictionary_-_MSN_Encarta&scrx=1
However, the support link throws you back to the list of MSN Standard services
with no Encarta Dictionary listed. Note that I'm signed in as a subscriber on
the support.msn.com page and it also doesn't show encarta in the subscriber
list.
Doesn't seem to bode well for any support at all for Encarta Dictionary, I'm
afraid.
