This is the group for the Windows Live Mail desktop application, not for the
Outlook Connector, mail.msn.com or mail.live.com. The topic of your message
might be a good one for microsoft.public.msn.discussion. You will of course
see the same people there as here, but there they won't be able to say that
you are off topic! People in the Outlook news groups tend not to know
anything about MSN or Outlook Connector.
You seem to be saying that since you had already downloaded your messages to
a pst file, then you shouldn't be seeing them again. It all depends on how
you downloaded the messages in the first place, and you don't appear to know
that. If you have an @msn.com mail account, then there are two ways to get
your messages into Outlook, pop3/smtp and a top-secret http protocol used by
Outlook Connector and the Windows Live Mail desktop application. It is
possible that Outlook on your desktop is set to leave a copy of all messages
on the server. This would explain the overflowing mail box on the laptop.
You can find out how Outlook on the desktop is accessing MSN Mail under
Tools, Account Settings.
If you decide to use Outlook Connector, then you are going to have a problem
keeping the mail boxes on your desktop and your laptop synced. I get around
this by leaving working copies on the server and by ONLY downloading to the
desktop. If I want a copy of old mail on the laptop then I copy it from the
desktop later. I am fifty-nine and I can handle these sorts of issues with
no problem. :oD
I have seen this happen before with MSN Mail (This is the same as Hotmail
and Live Mail for most intents and purposes.). When I set up my new laptop
it downloaded ten thousand mail messages (Seemed like it!) that I had
thought deleted. No one could ever provide an explanation for this, but
once I downloaded them and deleted them there was no further problem.
You do need to get straight in your head that if you are using Outlook
Connector then your Inbox under ***@msn.com is actually located on the MSN
Mail servers.
Cheers,
Earle

for whatever reason I had a message on windows live from a friend. and
when trying to respond I ended up with a mailbox somewhere on windows live
that had all my message for the last 4 months since I got my new computer.
since I had all those messages saved in my pst file on this desktop, I
deleted 900 message, a screen at a time... and emptied the mailbox. now
maybe when I get on the laptop there won't be a full inbox with over 700
messages. but I have no idea where I found that other mailbox. must have
been on windows live... how do other 67 year old people learn how to
comprehend this new knowledge? these whiz kid engineers will work
themselves out of a job when no one understands what to do anymore...
thanks for the help so far. charlie

For an MSN account you could be using either POP3 or the Outlook
Connector add-on for Outlook.

I had to delete my live mail account on this laptop because every time
my wife booted it up it gave me more than 700 junk mail messages on my
desktop which uses outlook. so I tried to install outlook on this
laptop. I can't find where the mail server is on the desktop. I am
using office 2007 there but I also have office 2003 and I don't need
office 2007 here and that would be an unneeded expense just to get email
fixed... I tried using exchange server for the mail server and imap
also but can't find out how outlook 2007 is getting my email. I used
the windows 7 routine to get all my stuff off the XP machine and outlook
worked without me having to do anything... thanks, charlie
