Discussion:
Removing details from new MSN home page

My revised MSN home page showed up today. New York is shown as the
weather module. I'm on the other coast. I added my local home town to
the weather box, but I cannot find any way to remove the New York entry.

I had the same problem with the horoscope module. I could only add
another zodiac sign and not remove one. I solved that one by completely
deleting the whole module, since I don't really need my horoscope.

I did manage to add my sports teams to the sports module. Looks like
those entries are easily removable.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the New York weather entry but keep
my local entry would be appreciated.

Not quite a catastrophic improvement, but close...

For www.msn.com with or without signing on with your Live ID, one can only configure one city for msn.com (the 'Change Location'
dialog box in the lower left is used for entering a city or zip code).

For my.msn.com more than one city can be configured in the Weather Module
- to remove one, place your cursor about 1/2 inch from the top right in the respective city weather frame, a small icon should
appear with a down arrow(move) and an 'x'(remove). Click the 'x'

Berit, how many test and development engineers do you have working on MSN
Explorer? I am guessing one of each, part time.

Cheers,

Earle

Earle, that's a good question and one that I'm pretty sure will not be answered,
but your added "guess" is just plain idiotic and insulting.

Stephen, it takes hard work and lots of staffing to make good software. I
don't think my guess is idiotic. I wonder why they even keep MSN around? I
remember when the first version was released with Windows 95, and the
program manager promptly disappeared. It had a sort of heyday in the middle
of the past decade, but now, with updates coming slow as molasses and really
serious bugs taking years to get fixed, you have to wonder why they even
keep it around. I suppose they have enough customers used to the browser
interface and the "proprietary" e-mail that they can keep collecting $9.95
here, $21.95 there, partner royalty there, enough to hire a program manager
and two engineers.

I worked at Microsoft for a long time and I can smell a product that is
being kept on life support, even from outside the company.

Hi Earle,

My team is responsible for MSN Premium and MSN Dial-Up. There are a
multitude of teams that work on MSN products and features. Some of the
other teams are:
MSN.com, My.MSN.com, MSN Video, MSN Mobile, and the various MSN content
providers (eg. MSN Autos).

I appreciate how much you must like the client since you are very passionate
about it, and I am truly flattered that you think my team is responsible for
all of MSN. I hope you are not too disappointed now that you know the truth.

All the Best,
Berit

Hi Berit,

I believe it was understood, that I was referring to MSN Explorer. In fact
I said that. So how big is your team?

Thanks, that worked.

I presume it would have worked with the horoscopes too...

Further question, though:
The URL for my home page includes &MSPPError=-2147217396 at the end of
the address. I don't notice anything wrong with the page. Should I be
concerned?

Never mind. The error message has now disappeared.

You're welcome.
I don't use the horoscope module...but if an 'x' is present it probably deletes something.
