I have discovered a workaround that achieves what you are trying to do.
Follow these steps:
From your Inbox page, click Options, then More Options.
Under Customize your mail, click Personal e-mail signature.
Type your name as you want it to appear in your signature.
Then format your name by using the dropdown menus for font name and font size.
You can also use bold, change the font color (foreground color), etc.
Click the Save button.
Click Go to inbox.
Click New to open a new message window. You should see your name in the
font name and font size that you saved.
If you place your cursor directly before your name and start typing your
message, it should appear in the same font name and font size as your
signature.
It works for me, and I hope it works for you!

Is there any way to change the default font and font size for messages that
I compose in Windows Live hotmail? I know it's easily changed after I write
a message, but I want the default changed so I don't have to keep doing it
over and over.
