Problem Connecting to www.msn.com

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with Windows XP Pro (SP3) with all of
the MS suggested security updates and IE 8. I also have Malwarebyte
AntiMalware, ESET NOD32 Antivirus, and Spywareblaster installed on my
computer. Prior to yesterday, I have not had any problems connecting to
www.msn.com.

When I tried to connect to MSN, the home page would come up for a second or
two and then it would disappear and then appear again. This blinking would
go on for approximately 7 to 8 seconds and then a dialog box would come up
saying something to the effect that this operation would stop and was unable
to connect to this web page. As a quick trouble shooting effort, I then
connected to al least ten other different web pages and was successful
without any problems.

Today I decided to contact MS Internet tech support (terrible phone
connection) but did not have any luck working with them. Basically he had
me reset IE but this did not help. He also asked me (with some trepidation
on my part) to disable the Antivirus program while connected to the
Internet. We also placed my computer in Safe Mode with Internet Connection
but still no luck in connecting to msn.com, same problem. He then suggested
that I uninstall IE 8 so as to go back to the prior IE version, but I
declined since I have not had any problems up until the last two days and
did not want to possibly create more problems. I suspect that the problem
is with the MS servers. I should note that I was able to successfully
connect to http://home.live.com/.

I would very much appreciate any help and solving my computer problem, Sam

Did you try running IE with no add-ons installed? Did you go to
Tools/Options/Advanced and reset all options in IE to default?
It does not sound like a server problem at all, but more a local rendering issue
on your side.

Stephen, thanks for your reply. Yes, I did reset all options in IE to
default as requested by the MS IE tech support. Regarding the add-ons,
there were three enabled and I disabled each one (Shockwave Flash Object,
Adobe PDF Link Helper, Java Plug In, and JQSIIEStartDetector---) but still
no luck. I should note that so far, I have been able to access any web site
I have tried (including other MS web sites) but not www.msn.com. Any other
suggestions would be very much appreciated, Sam.

Interesting.
What I'd try next is to install a 3rd party browser like Firefox or Google
Chrome to see how they behave with msn.com. Just be sure to not let them become
default or install additional software (unless you want that!).

Stephen, thanks again. What I find so strange about this situation, is that
this problem is only with the www.msn.com web site, all other web sites come
up okay without any problem. I may go ahead and try your suggestion.
Thanks again, Sam.

www.msn.com, no other web site.
